We learn "coping" skills as children in order to survive painful situations, including having parents who were not emotionally and relationally skilled.
This therapy group is designed for individuals who have experienced challenges in their relationships due to growing up with emotionally immature parents. If you find it difficult to establish healthy boundaries with your parents while maintaining a connection, or if you feel your expectations for relationships are influenced by past experiences, this group could be highly beneficial for you. Participants will engage in a supportive environment to share experiences, gain insights, and develop new strategies for interacting with parents and others. We will use the book 'Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents' as a guide throughout our sessions. This group is ideal for those seeking to understand their relational patterns better and work towards healthier dynamics. It is not suited for individuals currently experiencing acute mental health crises or those requiring more intensive, individual therapy at this time.
What to expect
Group members will meet weekly for 8 weeks for ninety minutes. In each session the group will take time to process about what they are learning in the book, share how the information relates to their own stories and offer support.
