Meditation for Queer Liberation

Join us as we find out what it means to be present, compassionate, and gently persistent with ourselves, for our own benefit and for collective healing.

This group is intended for

This group is for folks looking to grapple with life's big questions amongst other queer people. How can I love myself? How can I sit with the hard things? Where do I turn when my inner wisdom isn’t enough? Ever more urgent in this era of chaos, we use meditation as a way in to our own inherent wisdom. If you're feeling anxious about the state of the world and your relationship to it, this group is for you. If you're feeling confused about how your gender and sexuality can manifest in the world, this group is for you. We'll explore together - you may find that the act of asking generates its own answer.

You can expect

I'll provide basic instruction on meditation, present awareness, and somatic experiencing. Based on previous feedback, there will be ample time to share amongst one another your discoveries after guided meditations. Topics include making safe space within, interrogating oppressive narratives, and staying with difficult internal experiences. Sessions often include references to Buddhist or spiritual concepts - participants are invited to engage with these in any way that feels right for them and share their reflections with the group. If you prefer to listen, that's okay too! Your presence is a contribution in itself.

About Nino WinterbottomMHC-LP Counselor

group leader picture
I've been engaged with Buddhist meditation, including Zen and Tibetan lineages, off and on for about ten years. Through my training in spiritually-integrated mental health counseling, I have come to see common threads throughout both religious and secular practices. We are all striving to feel in balance. I bring hope, humor, compassion, and creativity to the work. I also believing in leaning into our growing edges. As a trauma-informed therapist who practices EMDR and IFS, I encourage participants to explore the tension between safety and risk. We'll cultivate individual and collective resources to support this exploration.
