Who this group is for
EmpowerHer is a nurturing sanctuary tailored for women and femmes who have survived sexual trauma. Before joining a support group like this, many survivors of sexual trauma feel isolated, anxious, and mistrustful, grappling with emotional turmoil and relationship issues (platonic, familial, and/or romantic). They often desire connection and understanding from those with similar experiences, seeking effective coping strategies and validation. There's a strong need for empowerment, to regain control and turn their trauma into strength. Being part of a supportive community that makes space for complicated emotion a key desire for participants.
What to expect
Through a blend of psychoeducation, identity exploration, and empathetic sharing, participants will gain insights into trauma responses, coping mechanisms, and avenues for self-care. Through discussions with other survivors, participants can gain a deeper understanding of their experiences, a sense of belonging, and the tools necessary for healing. Some sessions may have a particular theme or topic, but generally each session will start with a check in, followed by an open discussion, next, a grounding or mindfulness exercise, and then a check out.
I've facilitated many groups throughout my career, including groups on harm reduction, substance use, racial trauma, and sexual trauma. I offer a supportive base, a warm and inviting presence, and accountability. I make myself available outside of group to group members who experience triggers and need help finding resources for their healing journey.
